Make-it-Yourself Cream Cheese Frosting

While store bought frosting can be good in a pinch, I prefer to PLAY around in my kitchen. Sure its a bit messier, but its also more fun {especially if you have little mess makers like me}.

So here is my cream cheese frosting recipe. Its quick, easy, and yummy! Its also great for a carrot cake, a light lemon filled cupcake, homemade sticky buns, and well- the reason I made this batch- for CAKE BALLS!

it is soooo yummy and fast to make too!

CREAM CHEESE FROSTING

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup of butter (1 stick), room temperature
  • 8 oz of Philly cream cheese (1 pkg), room temperature
  • 2 - 3 cups of powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

Directions:

  •  With an electric mixer, mix the butter and cream cheese together, about 3 minutes on medium speed until very smooth. Scrape down the sides and bottom of the bowl to ensure even mixing.
  • Add the vanilla extract and mix. Slowly add the powdered sugar. Keep adding until you get to desired sweetness and thickness.
  •  Either spread on with a blunt knife or spatula, or spoon into a piping bag to decorate your cake or cupcake... or use to mix with your cake crumbs for cake balls.
Side Note: I added just a squeeze of lemon juice for a lemony tang... for my lemon filled cupcakes.

And yes, its SO GOOD you can eat it by the spoon full. ;)

  2. It has become my favorite icing. I love the subtle tang to it verses the straight sugar dose... though my kids like the sugar dose. haha :D
